The holiday season is just around the corner, and that means the real estate market comes to a halt…. Wrong! There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to buying or selling during the most wonderful time of the year, so let’s clear some things up.
BUYING DURING THE HOLIDAYS
Because many people don’t think to shop around during the holiday season that means there is less competition and more options available to serious buyers. This makes the end of the year a very favorable market for buyers. What’s more, if you close on your home by the end of the year, you also get to take advantage of the tax benefits as well as get a fresh start in the New Year! In addition, this makes the holiday season a great time for buyers looking to add to their investment portfolios.
LISTING YOUR HOME AT THE END OF THE YEAR
If you are considering selling your home, there is still plenty of time to list as long as you do so before December 15. And, as I noted above, the buyers who are searching during the holidays are oftentimes more serious than other times of the year. I know many sellers are concerned that they may not sell their home for as much during this time. But, in fact, listings sell for just as much as other times of the year and there are a lot of cash transactions making the closing process quicker.
If you do choose to list during this time, make sure you are mindful of holiday decorations when taking photos for your listing. It is best to take the photos before adding any decorations, even if it’s a month before the home goes on the market.
